Nazi Cyborg
Software: 3ds max, After Effects, Mudbox, Photoshop
Hey all, this guy here was an experiment with translating a piece of concept art into 3D. I used PS for textures, Mudbox for displacement for some pieces of armor, 3ds max 2009 for all the rest, and AE for comping. Smoke elements done in AE also.
You can check out the original concept art by Kuba Jablonski at:

and the movie it's being created for:

The movie, which is still in preproduction, is a sort of alternate history, sci-fi WWII retelling of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944.
PS: Brownie points for those that recognize the famous monument from Warsaw that serves as the backdrop here!

Dumpster
I did a game-ready model of a dumpster, working on it sporadically over the weekend. Everything in the scene is just over 1000 polys and textured with one 512x512 map and one 256x256 map, with spec and normal maps putting on the polish. For more statistics, or if you want to buy it, head over to:

New Reel!
Hey Fanboys, I'm happy to announce I've made the largest update to my reel in months, so check it out and let me know what you think. There's a lot of new stuff in there, and it's 10 seconds shorter! The most heartbreaking change, however, is that the classic mainstay of my reel, a resident of probably over a year, my dear David Croc statue had to be cut. So, here is its section in all its glory. Remember, before I get blamed for taking other people's work, the concept sketch at the beginning that is the start of all decent CG models, was crafted by Margaret Dost's hand (midost@gmail.com).
And after you see that, head over to my Reel Website, darn you! The link is directly to the right of this blog entry, but laziness/convenience's sake, here's the link:

Interior Rendering
I did an interior rendering within 3ds max; am working on an exterior shot and will finalize that if circumstances allow. Important to note that this was a rendering and lighting exercise; the only pieces I modeled (and not even for this project) are the skull and the statue in the back.
I went through a number of lighting schemes to come up with the one that works best, including Area Lights, various Daylight Systems, Skylights, Global Illumination, Final Gather, and various combinations thereof. In the end, the room is illuminated by a Mental Ray daylight system using GI and Final Gather. Textures are all Arch & Design materials, several using bitmaps to control glossiness and other attributes. This was the result of a lesson structure from this excellent site:

Tully Monster Finished
... as is the film that he was created for. I'll post the film soon enough, but not before its first screening. For now, I've got a one and a half minute spiel about two main FX shots in the film. Some breakdowns, layers, etc. Obviously there was more to it, but it'd be pretty lame if I wasted time showing how I matched grain and black levels and other exciting things.
BTW, the music playing in the background is a techno remix of the Jurassic Park theme. It's a bastardization of the theme of my favorite film, but somehow, it's pleasing. Booya.
